Brenna Meehen is painter and artist born in Pawtucket, Rhode Island and is currently residing in Rehoboth, Massachusetts. She graduated in May 2025 from Rhode Island College with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting.
My paintings focus on creating landscapes through color and mark-making. The main force throughout my work is to invoke emotion and create environments that allow the viewer to get lost in. These created spaces often have paths that lead to nowhere visible, or paths that sneak behind dense foliage, allowing the viewer to question where the paths lead. The landscapes I create are often inspired by locations, flora, and memories that hold importance to me, as I put my own feelings and experiences into the construction of these places.
My decision making process is currently about the build up of marks in order to create an energetically cohesive space. These spaces in my work are created by using layers and marks to manipulate color and mimic natural movements. I’m motivated by the use of color and impasto to move the eye around the environment. The goal for these paintings is to create an atmospheric environment with natural movement that can toe the line between recognizable and unrecognizable objects and spaces.
